Russia, Ukraine, OSCE Transnistrian Settlement Mediators Meet

PRESS RELEASE

A meeting of the mediators from the Russian Federation, Ukraine and the OSCE in Transnistrian settlement was held at Vienna on December 14-15. Valery Nesterushkin, Russian MFA Ambassador at Large, took part.

There were preliminarily discussed, with the appropriate Russian and Ukrainian experts enlisted, the proposals for confidence-building and security measures, as prepared by the OSCE Mission in Moldova. The participants agreed to continue working these subjects through, which may be called for as part of the political settlement process.

The mediators also exchanged views on the present situation in the region, and agreed their further steps to help in restoring the direct dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol and restarting a normal negotiating process with a view to elaborating a document for a comprehensive settlement of the Transnistrian problem.
