Press release on Russian-US consultations regarding the Korean Peninsula
On September 12, Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov and US Special Representative for North Korea Policy Joseph Yun met for consultations in Moscow.
They exchanged opinions on the situation on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia in general following North Korea’s latest nuclear test and the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2375.
The Russian position, as underscored during consultations, is that there is no alternative to exclusively political and diplomatic solutions to the problems on the Korean Peninsula, including the nuclear problem. Russia’s willingness to work together to find comprehensive approaches to security in Northeast Asia, including within the framework of the Russian-Chinese roadmap for a Korean settlement, was noted.
