Стратегическое партнерство с Индией
Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on April 13, 1947, that is, several months before the India's declaration of independence (August 15, 1947).
During the past decades, despite domestic political and drastic global changes, the traditionally friendly Russian-Indian relations have been continuously strengthening. In recent years, they have reached the level of "special and privileged strategic partnership" representing a unique format of interstate interaction. This wording, contained in the Joint Statement adopted during the visit of the President of the Russian Federation to New Delhi in December 2010, particularly highlights the mature, multifaceted and rich nature of relations between the two countries. They are based on the highest level of mutual understanding and confidence, similar priorities of economic and social development and coinciding approaches towards ensuring international peace and security and forming a new world order. Relying on this common heritage, our countries are consistently taking advantage of the potential of bilateral partnership in all key fields, including trade, investments and nuclear energy.
Russia's and India's positions on the majority of acute challenges facing the humanity today are close, be it regional conflicts, international terrorism, or transborder drug trafficking.
The truly strategic nature of Russia-India partnership is clearly indicated by the unprecedentedly high level of military and technical cooperation with the joint development of advanced weapons becoming the most important area.
Our countries attach great importance to humanitarian cooperation. India's millennia-old history and rich cultural heritage have an extraordinary magnetic force. Indian nationals, in their turn, discover with interest the wealth of Russian music, literature and art.
Russia and India continue to work together on enhancing the prospects of their strategic partnership through deepening cooperation in knowledge-intensive fields, promoting joint products in international markets, further increasing the share of high value added products in mutual trade, improving the effectiveness of interaction in international affairs and maximizing the potential of cultural and humanitarian contacts.
