Оn the 21th Asean-Russia Joint Cooperation Committee meeting

The 21th Meeting of the ASEAN-Russia Joint Cooperation Committee (ARJCC) took place in Jakarta on 4 April 2023 at the level of Permanents Representatives to ASEAN with participation of the ASEAN Secretariat and Russian line agencies experts.

In view of the 5th Anniversary of the ASEAN-Russia Strategic Partnership the ARJCC meeting was focused on the realisation of the Comprehensive Plan of Action (CPA) to Implement the ASEAN and the Russian Federation Strategic Partnership (2021-2025).

The participants discussed ways to expand the ASEAN-Russia political and security, economic and socio-cultural cooperation with its new directions instrumental to strengthening common capacity to withstand present day challenges. The Meeting outlined the detailed measures to further deepen multifaceted collaboration in areas of mutual interest, such as energy security, digital economy, combating infectious diseases, tourism etc. New projects in the field of energy, transportation, ecology and agriculture were presented.

Both sides commended the outcomes of ASEAN-Russia Year of Scientific and Technical Cooperation (ARYSTC 2022), including convening of the 1st ASEAN-Russia Ministerial Meeting on Science, Technology and Innovation on 14 February 2022. Prospects of launching ASEAN-Russia dialogues on finance and on digitalization were high on the agenda.

The Meeting positively noted activities of the ASEAN Center in MGIMO University aimed at deepening socio-cultural, academic and people-to-people contacts between ASEAN Member States and Russia. In this regard ASEAN appreciated the new MGIMO’s Master’s Programme “Political Economy of the ASEAN-Russia Strategic Partnership”.
