Press release on the presidential election in Chad
On May 6, Chad held presidential elections. According to preliminary data published by the National Election Management Agency on May 9, the winner, with 61.03 percent of the vote, is President of the Transition Period, President of the Republic of Chad, Head of State, and candidate from the ruling Patriotic Salvation Movement party Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno. His main opponent, Prime Minister of Chad and leader of the opposition Transformers party Succes Masra, gained 18.53 percent of the vote.
The voting took place in a calm atmosphere with no serious violations that could affect the outcome of the election. The turnout was 75.9 percent.
Moscow welcomes the successful conclusion of the presidential election in Chad, which represents the final stage in the country’s transition to civilian rule. The Russian Federation reaffirms its readiness to further strengthen the longstanding relations of friendship and cooperation with the Republic of Chad.
