Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova’s answer to a media question about the results of the EU summit held on March 21-22

535-22-03-2024

Question: What’s your take on the discussions to further militarise the EU held at the EU summit in Brussels on March 21-22?

Maria Zakharova: The outcomes of this meeting of the European Council have once again revealed that the current EU political elites continue to divert the attention of their own public from their grave political, socioeconomic and many other strategic mistakes. In the run-up to the elections to the European Parliament in June, 2024, the EU officials are engaging in confrontational geopolitics aimed at destroying global security.

This is further corroborated by President of the European Council Charles Michel who, alongside other irresponsible radical Western politicians, advocates expedited preparations for war in Europe and placing the EU economy on the war economy track.

The EU’s goal of doubling its arms purchases from European countries by 2030 shows that the EU has taken its cues from the United States and plans to profit from war. The number of conflicts around the world that will be provoked and fueled by European arms is anyone’s guess.

As for Ukraine, there is no doubt, however, that neither the 50 billion euros of financial and economic support allocated by the EU for the next four years, nor the 5 billion euros in military aid for this year will save the corrupt neo-Nazi regime in Kiev. The ruthlessness approach of the European Union and its puppet Kiev regime to the Ukrainians is the only thing that remains unchanged. In an effort to work off the Western money, Vladimir Zelensky and Co. will continue to organise bloody PR stunts “on the battlefield” in order to prove to their Anglo-Saxon and European patrons that they are rebuffing the “threat from the East.” Instigated by the West, the Ukrainian Nazis don’t think twice before perpetrating terrorist attacks against civilian infrastructure and civilians in Russian cities. The current EU leadership and EU member countries which supply Kiev with weapons and provoke it to commit international crimes should be held equally accountable for these actions.

Everything is unfolding like we said earlier: ordinary Ukrainians will pay for the multibillion-dollar Western loans that the Ukrainian authorities have been pillaging since 2014. The EU is openly telling them that their place is not in Europe, but “on the battlefield” against Russia.
