Press release on the Foreign Ministry report on the human rights situation in Ukraine

746-19-04-2023

The Foreign Ministry has released yet another report on the human rights situation in Ukraine.

Over the past year and a half, there was a noticeable deterioration in Ukraine in terms of promoting and protecting human rights, and the evident trends in this sphere raise the most serious concerns. The regime in power since 2014 has made system-wide efforts to suppress human rights, opposition and dissent in Ukraine its policy goal in an attempt to fight everything Russian. This is demonstrated by multiple serious human rights violations affecting all aspects of society, as well as the unwillingness of those who call themselves the national leaders to do anything to remedy this situation.

Moreover, the Kiev regime has been recently referring to martial law it enacted as a pretext for creating an authoritarian system of government in the country, characterised by a total consolidation of power, extrajudicial killings, strict censorship and the de facto eradication of independent media outlets, as well as of the political opposition, topped with all-encompassing state propaganda and an all-out effort to find traitors and imaginary Russian spies and sabotage operatives. Armed with the ideology and methods of the Ukrainian nationalist radicals, the current regime de facto evolved into a neo-Nazi dictatorship. Kiev’s campaign against the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church reached a new high in terms of its cynicism and hypocrisy. It went as far as completely banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, giving rise to a massive wave of seizing its churches. Those who hold power in Kiev need war and the broad arsenal of repressive measures they wield as their only and the most reliable tool for making their days last. In the meantime, nothing is being done to remedy serious human rights violations.

Glorifying Nazism and distorting history is one of the few topics on which the Kiev authorities have been quite active. In fact, Kiev has been consistent in its drive to aggressively promote neo-Nazism, rewrite the history of the Great Patriotic War and World War II, and cultivate neo-Nazi ideologies and openly racist views. Across Ukraine, we are witnessing efforts to rehabilitate World War II Nazis and their accomplices by celebrating Ukrainian collaborationist units that cooperated with the Nazi invaders during the war as members of the “national liberation movement.”

This report sets forth all these negative trends and backs them up with extensive evidence and facts.

Established with outside influence, this neo-Nazi regime is not independent in its actions, as demonstrated by these shameful actions by the Kiev authorities. All they do is execute the instructions of their external patrons to turn their own country into an anti-Russia project. The only mission reserved for this entity is to serve as a source of tension near Russian territory at the cost of its own statehood. These overseas patrons have been turning a blind eye to the neo-Nazi identity of the current leadership and pushing it further down the road of self-destruction because of its servile readiness to cancel everything Russian and destroy history and the memory of the actual rather than imaginary national past to the detriment of its own people.
