Press release on personal sanctions against representatives of the armed forces, propaganda entities, the judiciary and the penitentiary system of Great Britain

484-17-03-2023

Due to the active use of the mechanism of unilateral sanctions against Russian individuals and organisations by the British government, as well as the comprehensive efforts of the British to provide military and technical support to Ukraine, a decision was made to add a number of representatives of the armed forces, propaganda entities, the judiciary and penitentiary systems of Great Britain (23 people in total) to the Russian stop list.

Among the blacklisted individuals are officers of the British armed forces involved in organising training for Ukrainian military personnel in the United Kingdom, after the launch of the special military operation, for the purpose of conducting combat operations against the Russian army including commanders of formations that provided instructors for that training.

The list of British subjects now banned from entering the Russian Federation also includes the management of Zinc Network represented by CEO Robert Elliott, Executive Director Scott Brown, and Executive Director of Research and Strategy Louis Brooke. Acting on the order of the British government, this organisation works to discredit foreign journalists who express a point of view that differs from the generally accepted line in the West regarding events in Ukraine, provides support to media outlets recognised as foreign agents in Russia, and fabricates anti-Russia materials to be distributed in the media.

In addition, sanctions have been imposed on a number of judges and officials of the UK penitentiary system involved in the harassment of independent journalists. In particular, representatives of the management of Belmarsh high security prison in London, which is known for repeated cases of human rights violations, were included in the stop list.
