On the meeting of heads of political sections of embassies of a number of BRICS countries and Arab states in Israel
On October 2, Ambassador of Russia to Israel Anatoly Viktorov took part in a meeting of heads of political sections of embassies of a number of BRICS countries and Arab states in Israel, organized within the framework of the Russian BRICS 2024 chairmanship.
In his address, Anatoly Viktorov expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation between BRICS and the countries of the Middle East. He noted that the positions of our states on key international issues, including the settlement of the Middle East crisis, are close or coincide. He emphasized that without a fair settlement of the Palestinian problem based on international legal decisions, including resolutions of the Security Council and the UN General Assembly, as well as the Arab Peace Initiative, stabilization in the region will be impossible. He pointed out the need for an urgent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, ensuring safe humanitarian access to the victims and the release of hostages. Called for the immediate transfer of the situation on the Israeli-Lebanese border to a political and diplomatic channel and for all parties of the conflict to comply with the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
During the discussion that followed, the main focus was on the situation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone and the sharp escalation of tensions between Israel and Lebanese Hezbollah. There was also a thorough exchange of views on the unification of efforts by BRICS countries and Arab states to normalize the situation in the Middle East.
The event was held in a businesslike and friendly atmosphere. The intention to continue holding meetings in a similar format was confirmed.
