Victory day celebration in India

The Russian Embassy in India organized a series of events dedicated to the celebration of the 74th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

On May 7, the Russian Center for Science and Culture (RCSC) in New Delhi hosted a seminar “Impact and Lessons of the Great Victory of Soviet People over Fascism for Mankind”, which saw the presence of Russian Ambassador to India H.E. Mr Nikolay Kudashev and Russian diplomats, ambassadors and employees of the diplomatic missions of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, as well as representatives of scientific and business circles, creative elite, students of New Delhi universities and journalists. The event was also dedicated to75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.

On May 8, the traditional “Immortal regiment” march was held at the RCSC in New Delhi with the support of the Russian Embassy in India and the Indian Association of Russian Compatriots. The event saw the presence of Indian public and political figures, media representatives, Indian professors of Russian language and their students from leading Indian universities and “Blue bells” school, ambassadors and employees of diplomatic missions of the CIS countries in New Delhi, their families, as well as living in India compatriots. At the end of the official part of the celebration and the festive concert, the column of the Immortal Regiment for the first time marched in front of the Presidential Palace (the Rashtrapati Bhawan), located in the administrative center of the city.

Russian Ambassador to India H.E. Mr Nikolay R. Kudashev addressed the audience, noting the significance of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War - one of the most significant events of the 20th century - not only for Russia, but for the whole world. He also urged to preserve the memory of the feat of the Soviet people, who made a decisive contribution to the victory over fascism.

The Wall of Memory has become an integral part of the solemn event - an exhibition of portraits of relatives of the participants of the Great Patriotic War provided by those who came to the event, as well as letters, documents and memories from family archives of compatriots, diplomatic mission staff and other Russian organizations, citizens of Armenia and Kazakhstan living in Indian capital. From April 29 to May 9, the Wall of Memory was opened at the school at the Embassy of Russia, for which over 100 students and teachers shared their photos.

As part of the program dedicated to the celebration of Victory Day, the traditional campaign “St. George Ribbon” was held; there were photographic exhibitions “Link of Times” (TASS), “1945: Our Common Victory” and “Price of Victory” (provided by the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in India), as well as an exhibition of children's drawings “The World through the Eyes of Children”, prepared by Russian compatriots.

For the holiday, children's sports competitions in volley-football and cyber football were also held on the Embassy’s sports ground.

The culmination of the festivities was a concert for the staff of the Russian diplomatic mission and compatriots on May 8, before which guests could taste the dishes of the field kitchen.

The embassy has joined the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Internet campaign, marking up all the notes about events dedicated to the 74th anniversary of the Victory in World War II and thematic materials in its official accounts in social networks (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) with the hashtags of #GreatPatrioticWar and #WWII.
