Protest to US Embassy in Moscow
Unofficial translation from Russian
PRESS RELEASE
On September 14 the Foreign Ministry declared protest to Minister-Counselor of the US Embassy in Moscow E. Wells over another conference on the North Caucasus being held in Washington under the aegis of the American non-governmental organization Jamestown Foundation, to which former Maskhadov's emissary M. Vachagayev is invited, among others.
The Russian side noted that holding on American soil events advocating terrorism runs counter to the international obligations of the United States, including the provisions of the Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy recently approved by the UN General Assembly, and UN Security Council Resolutions 1624, 1373, 1267, 1617 and 1566. The US authorities' actual connivance at anti-Russian actions evokes bewilderment against the background of the actively developing antiterrorist partnership of our two countries, it was stressed.
