Opening of a road named after the first Russian to visit India, Afanasy Nikitin, in Kozhikode

On 18 April 2022, the historical event of opening of a road named after the first Russian to visit India, Afanasy Nikitin, took place in the city of Kozhikode, on the south-western coast of India.

At the ceremony, a signboard with the name of the street and a stylized portrait of the Russian traveller was solemnly unveiled.

Among the guests were representatives of the City Hall, Chairman of the Presidium of the Russian Association for International Cooperation (RAIC) Dr Sergey Kalashnikov, Secretary-General of the RAIC Mr Vladimir Polozkov, President of the Russian Society for Friendship with India Mr Evgeny Shilnikov, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Chennai Mr Oleg Avdeev, First Vice-President of the India-Russia Foundation Mr Sudhir Pal Sabharwal, Honorary Consul of Russia in Trivandrum, Director of the Russian House Mr Ratheesh Nair, members of the public.
