Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov Speaks to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton by Telephone

On August 20, a telephone conversation between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton took place at the American side's initiative.
Moscow-Washington cooperation within the 5+1 Group for a political settlement to the situation around Iran's nuclear program was discussed, particularly in the context of an upcoming meeting on September 2 of foreign ministry political directors from Russia, USA, China, Britain, Germany and France.
Lavrov and Clinton also agreed upon a schedule for their upcoming contacts before year-end to monitor implementation of the accords reached at the talks of Presidents Dmitry Medvedev and Barack Obama in Moscow on July 6-7. They broached a number of issues relating to the prospects of bilateral economic cooperation and exchanged views on the situation in Transcaucasia.
