Presentation of the Republic of Bashkortostan at the UNESCOHeadquarters

On the 1 October, a large-scale presentation of the Republic of Bashkortostan, dedicated to 15 years cooperation with UNESCO was held at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
Rustem Khamitov, President of the Republic of Bashkortostan, participated in the activities dedicated to this event. He met Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO. At the end, a Joint Communique determining the main lines of further cooperation in the area of preservation of natural and cultural heritageand participation in the international scientific and educational programme was signed.
A specially prepared vivid and spectacular multimedia exposition showed all the beauty of the nature of this indigenous region, its potential for travellers, the development of education, science and culture.
Two round tables were organized within the framework of this event. During the first round table, issues related to the nomination of the Bashkirsky Urals nature and culture complex for inclusion on UNESCO's World Heritage List were considered. Bashkir scientists and specialists spoke about the activities to preserve the natural and cultural heritage of the Republic. International experts, who participated in the discussion, provided several items of valuable advice and recommendations.
The second round table was devoted to topical aspects of interaction of this region with UNESCO in the area of education. UNESCO Specialistshighly appreciated the achievements of Bashkortostan in the area of education. The activity of associated schools and departments operating in the territory of the Republic was noted. Three Bashkir Gymnasiums and Lyceums were issued with certificates as UNESCO Associated Schools.
The presentation ended with a gala-concert, where a number of masters of arts performed; art and folklore groups, soloist opera singers and the ballet of Bashkortostan – followers of the traditions of their legendary fellow countrymen Feodor Chaliapin and Rudolf Nureyev.
A well-known couturier Vyacheslav Zaitsev presented his new collection, which was prepared together with Bashkir masters.
