About the medical airlifting of P. Mitkov to Russia

1488-25-07-2013

PRESS RELEASE

On the 24 July, the Russian child P. Mitkov, born last April on the 28th week of his mother's pregnancy, was successfully airlifted from Paris on a special flight of the Russian Emergencies Ministry. The child's parents – Russian nationals – were on a tourist trip to France at the time of his premature birth.

Since birth, due to complications of the respiratory system, the child has been under the constant surveillance of French doctors in one of the best Parisian centres of neonatal medicine and reanimation, where he was given highly skilled attention. Employees of the Russian Embassy to France maintained constant contact with the team of attending doctors and visited the hospital many times. The Embassy's doctor received information about P. Mitkov's state of health, sent it to his parents (the new-born's mother flew back to Russia two weeks after the delivery) and to profile Russian agencies controlling the situation with the child (the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Russian Emergencies Ministry, the Russian Ministry of Health). P. Mitkov was promptly issued a Russian national's passport.

As soon as we learnt that the child was transportable, all required approvals from the Russian and French authorised bodies were received as regards the medical airlifting of P. Mitkov.

During P. Mtkov's entire stay in France, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with other competent agencies did everything in its power to keep the new-born alive.
