Press release on Vietnam’s decision to temporarily delay application of new visa requirements to Russian citizens

96-23-01-2015

As reported earlier, on January 1, 2015, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam enacted new provisions of the Law on the Procedure for the Entry, Exit, Transit and Stay of Foreign Citizens in Vietnam, dated June 16, 2014. According to these provisions, foreigners who have the right to stay visa-free in Vietnam for a period of 15 days by unilateral decision of the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam can enter the country using passports set to expire at least six months after crossing into the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Multiple entry without a visa is possible, provided that at least 30 days have passed since the date of last entry into Vietnam. Those wishing to reenter Vietnam before this 30-day period expires must obtain visas at a Vietnamese consular office abroad.

However, following a request of the Russian Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam agreed to temporarily delay application of the new provision regarding the duration of passports. Therefore, until January 31, 2015, Russian citizens are allowed to enter Vietnam without a visa using passports that will expire in less than six months but no sooner than three months.
