Press release on a telephone conversation between Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs Margot Wallstrom

On April 17, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden Margot Wallstrom, on the initiative of the latter.

The ministers exchanged views on the situation in Syria and on ways to resolve it, including Russian-Swedish interaction in the UN Security Council (Sweden is a non-permanent member in 2017-2019). Mr Lavrov presented his Swedish counterpart with the Russian principal assessment of the situation following an act of aggression against Syria committed by the United States along with Great Britain and France in violation of the UN Charter. Both sides noted the importance of drawing on the expertise of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons for conducting a thorough and objective investigation of the incident in the Syrian city of Douma.

Sergey Lavrov and Margot Wallstrom also touched on a number of important current issues related to the Council of the Baltic Sea States and Russian-Swedish bilateral relations.
