Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s meeting with Lassina Zerbo, Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation

On October 20, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Lassina Zerbo, Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation, currently in Moscow to attend the international conference of the youth group of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty and the Moscow Nonproliferation Conference.

During the conversation, Mr Lavrov and Mr Zerbo discussed issues relating to the Treaty and underscored the need for enacting it as soon as possible. They noted the high level of cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Provisional Technical Secretariat of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation’s Preparatory Commission and the efficiency of this cooperation.

Mr Zerbo thanked the Russian Federation for its unwavering support of the Treaty and for its active efforts to make it a universal document.

For his part, Mr Lavrov underscored that Russia regards the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty as a key element of the system of international law for security in the area of nuclear weapons limitations and nonproliferation. He confirmed Russia’s principled position of facilitating the Treaty’s quickest possible enactment.
