Press release on the parliamentary elections in Lesotho
Early elections were held to the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Lesotho on June 3. The Independent Electoral Commission of Lesotho has announced that the opposition party All Basotho Convention (ABC) won 48 of the 120 seats, the Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) has 30 seats, and the remaining seats went to 10 other parties. The ABC has said it will form a coalition government.
International observers, including from the African Union and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), have declared the election results to be valid and noted that voting mostly proceeded peacefully and in keeping with democratic standards.
Moscow welcomes the successful parliamentary elections in Lesotho as a major step towards settling the internal political crisis, which began in 2014, and the SADC’s constructive contribution to organising the elections.
