Press release on the earthquake in Ecuador

On the evening of April 16, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit the north-western coast of Ecuador, killing over 270 and injuring more than 2,000 people.

President of Russia Vladimir Putin has sent a message of condolences to President of Ecuador Rafael Correa on the large number of victims and vast destruction, saying that Russia shares the pain and sorrow of those who lost their families and friends in the disaster and wishing a speedy recovery to all the injured.

The speakers of the two houses of the Russian Parliament also sent their condolences.

According to available information, there are no Russians among the earthquake victims.
