Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s meeting with members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)
On October 1, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with members of the Cooperation Council of Arab Gulf states, including Foreign Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Foreign Minister of Qatar Khalid bin Mohammed al-Attiyah, Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia Adel al-Jubeir, Foreign Minister of Bahrain Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed al-Khalifa, Foreign Minister of Oman Yusuf Bin Alawi Bin Abdullah Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations Lana Nusseibeh, and GCC Secretary General Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani. The meeting took place in New York during the 70th UN General Assembly.
The participants discussed the prospects of further deepening the multifaceted cooperation between Russia and the GCC, including furthering the strategic dialogue and expanding trade and economic ties.
A thorough exchange of views on current issues on the regional and international agenda took place at the meeting.
Particular attention was paid to the goals of reaching an early, secure political resolution of regional conflicts, including in Libya, Syria, Yemen, and making a coordinated, resolute rebuff to terrorist threats in the Middle East and North Africa.
