Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov Speaks to Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs Hirofumi Nakasone by Telephone

PRESS RELEASE

On May 28, a telephone conversation between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and Hirofumi Nakasone, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, took place at the Japanese side's initiative.

The ministers exchanged views on the tense situation on the Korean Peninsula resulting from the underground nuclear test carried out by the DPRK. The sides condemned the Pyongyang move, which is a violation of UN Security Council resolution 1718, and spoke for a consolidated reaction to it on the part of the international community in the form of a UNSC resolution which would facilitate resuming efforts for denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula in the framework of the six-party process.
