On June 21, a telephone conversation between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/European Commission Vice President Catherine Ashton took place at the EU's initiative.

The parties discussed topical issues on the international agenda, including the situation in the Middle East peace process in the context of reinvigorating the efforts of the Quartet of international mediators.
