Press release on the Russian delegation’s participation in the United Nations Bonn Climate Change Conference

Between November 6 and 17, Bonn, Federal Republic of Germany, is hosting the 23rd Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the 13th Conference of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol, and the second part of the first session  of the Conference of the Parties to the Paris Agreement.

A Russian interagency delegation is also attending the UN Climate Change Conference in Bonn. It is led by Adviser to the President, Special Presidential Representative on Climate Issues Alexander Bedritsky.

The Russian side proceeds from the assumption that global warming is one of the most serious challenges to sustained development, one that affects all countries.

We seek to continue pro-active involvement in the negotiations in the spirit of partnership and collective responsibility. Through a constructive cooperation with other delegations, Russia is striving to ensure the success of the intergovernmental process, including the reaching of consensus on the content of future regulations for implementing the Paris Agreement based on the agreements reached in Marrakesh in 2016.

Russia considers the Paris Agreement to be a reliable international and legal basis for a long-term solution to the climate change problem. As a leader in the international climate process, Russia was among the majority of UN member-states that signed the Paris Agreement in April 2016. The agreement is currently being prepared for ratification in accordance with Russian law.
