On November 1, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and North Africa Mikhail Bogdanov conducted consultations with Head of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraq Falah Mustafa Bakir.
Their in-depth exchange of opinions covered the full range of problems in Iraq, particularly the task of effectively combating the terrorist threat in light of the current operation to eliminate the ISIS stronghold in Mosul. The sides considered the prospects for the internal political process in Iraq and the situation in Iraqi Kurdistan, including in the context of the growing influence of the Kurdish factor in regional affairs.
Concrete ways of further developing bilateral cooperation between Russia and Iraq with an emphasis on the Kurdistan Region were also discussed.
