On November 20, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had talks with Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, who is in Moscow on a working visit.

The foreign ministers had an in-depth discussion on important issues related to the further progressive development of Russia-Bahrain relations, which have traditionally been friendly. Priority attention was given to reviewing progress in implementing in practice the decisions and agreements that were approved earlier at the top level.

In this context, the two sides reaffirmed the mutual commitment of Moscow and Manama to maintain a regular political dialogue, ensure sustained growth in bilateral trade, and boost investment activities and cultural ties between the two countries. They noted the important coordinating role of the Intergovernmental Russian-Bahraini Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation in this regard.

There was a thorough discussion of key issues on the Middle East agenda with a focus on Syria, Iraq and the Middle East settlement process. The ministers noted the need for a peaceful resolution of regional conflicts in accordance with international law and the UN Charter that must be coupled with determined efforts to combat terrorism.

The two sides also reviewed efforts required to normalise the situation in the Persian Gulf, including by implementing Russia’s relevant concept-based proposals to create a collective security system in this strategically important region.
