Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan
On March 26-27, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited Tashkent, where he participated in the International High-Level Conference on Afghanistan, Peace Process, Security Cooperation and Regional Connectivity. The Russian party proceeds from the fact that the conference, which took place to promote international efforts to facilitate national reconciliation in Afghanistan, including as part of the Moscow format and the SCO-Afghanistan Contact Group, contributed to the multifaceted work on providing favourable external conditions to achieve the goals stated by the organisers.
During his stay in Tashkent, Sergey Lavrov was received by President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. In a trust-based atmosphere, the officials exchanged views on a number of current international and regional issues, as well as Russian-Uzbek cooperation. They paid particular attention to the implementation of the large-scale agreements reached following Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to Russia on April 4-5, 2017, as well as Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev’s official visit to Tashkent on November 2, 2017.
On the sidelines of the conference, Mr Lavrov had talks with President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani and Foreign Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Erlan Abdyldayev, during which they discussed regional security and international cooperation.
