HONORARY CONSUL OF RUSSIA APPOINTED IN KINGDOM OF THAILAND
In Thailand, Panga Wattanakun has begun to perform her responsibilities as the Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in the city of Pattaya. Pattaya is a resort city on the shore of the Siam Bay, widely visited by tourists from the Russian Federation.
A Russian consular patent has been issued to Wattanakun. The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Thailand, Yevgeny Ostrovenko, handed it to her on February 12, 2004. Speaking at the function held on this occasion, the ambassador noted that the establishment of the post of Honorary Consul of Russia in Pattaya with a consular district that encompasses the provinces of Rayong and Chon Buri is one more proof of the current dynamic evolution of Russian-Thai relations and of reciprocally beneficial cooperation in the spirit of the agreements reached in the course of the State Visit of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in October 2003.
From the Thai side Wattanakun received an appropriate exequatur. Handing it, Mr. Phutrakun, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, emphasized that the appointment of the first Honorary Consul of Russia in Thailand is an important practical step in the expansion of Russian-Thai ties, which have deep historical roots and are currently on the increase.
Wattanakun, for her part, expressed gratitude to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the trust accorded her and gave an assurance that her work at the post of Honorary Consul will be aimed at the strengthening of friendship and cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Kingdom of Thailand, the safeguarding in the consular district of the rights and interests of Russian citizens and maximum assistance to the promotion of business and people-to-people contacts.
