Russia’s National Unity Day celebrated in Bangkok
On November 2, 2018 Bangkok’s Shangri-La Hotel welcomed Russian expat community. The reception on the occasion of the National Unity Day was attended by representatives of the Union of Russian Compatriots in Thailand, Russian Orthodox Church, Honorary Consulates of Russia in Pattaya, Phuket and Samui, business circles, cultural and education centers as well as the most socially active members of the Russian diaspora in Thailand.
H.E. Mr. Kirill Barsky, Ambassador of Russia to Thailand addressed the audience with a welcoming speech. It was followed by the awarding ceremony – diplomas of the Russian Government Commission on Compatriots Living Abroad were awarded to Mr. Ivan Sharapov, talented pianist, music teacher and promoter of the Russian culture, Mr. Nikita Derkach, head of the “Asia Amazing” TV Channel, businessman and member of the Thai-Russian Chamber of Commerce and Mr. Mikhail Lyapin, director of the “Matryoshka” Russian Language and Culture Center who is also teaching the Russian language at Berkeley International School and Bangkok University.
On top of that a group of Russian citizens received certificates of special appreciation for their contribution to the organization of the Victory Day celebrations. This group included Mr. Feodor Ozarenov, Assistant to the Honorary Consul of Russia in Chonburi and Rayong Provinces, Mrs. Irina Novikova, Chairperson of the Union of Russian Compatriots in Thailand as well as two Russian citizens living in Phuket – Mrs. Irina Gorulenko and Mrs. Evgeniya Chub.
