Unofficial translation from Russian
PRESS RELEASE
On August 13, in development of the telephone conversation held the day before between the Russian and Polish Presidents, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Valery Loshchinin received Polish Ambassador to Russia Stefan Meller and held a telephone conversation with Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrzej Zalucki.
Information was conveyed to the high-ranking Polish diplomats on the measures taken to enhance the security of the Polish Embassy in Moscow and its staff, as well as on the progress in the investigation of the recent incidents involving employees of Polish representations. Hope was expressed that, irrespective of the intensity of the election struggle, there will end in Poland the whipping up of anti-Russian sentiment creating in relations between the two countries an atmosphere in which criminal attacks like those in Warsaw and Moscow are possible. We are not satisfied by the present state of Russian-Polish relations. There must at last prevail common sense and benevolence conducive to the realization of mutual keenness to develop good-neighborliness and mutually beneficial cooperation. The Russian side is ready to take and is taking all necessary measures. Moscow hopes that Warsaw will also respond to this responsibly.
In the course of the conversations the necessity was stressed to develop a purposeful program of action to improve bilateral relations.
