Comment by the Information and Press Department on the demolition of the monument to Soviet and Polish soldiers in the city of Lukow, Poland
The obsession by official Warsaw with “de-communisation” has yielded another ignominious fruit. The monument to Red Army soldiers and Polish soldiers who died fighting for the liberation of the city from the Nazis in June 1944 was pulled down in Lukow, the Lublin Province in Poland.
The cynicism of the country’s authorities is amazing, as they continue to follow the line of distorting the history of World War II, trampling on the memory of Soviet soldiers and at the same time demonstrating the treacherous neglect of their own heroes.
It is high time Polish leaders thought about and remembered their commitments regarding Russia, and their own people for that matter. It is not too late to put an end to the shameful practice of fighting these monuments, which has already harmed our bilateral relations.
