Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s talks with Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of Namibia Peya Mushelenga
The ministers discussed in detail the state and future growth prospects of the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries, confirming Moscow and Windhoek’s intention to energise and intensify political dialogue and step up mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, the economy, investment, culture, and other areas.
In this context, they considered additional opportunities for expanding interaction in geological exploration, production and processing of mineral resources, energy, agriculture, fishing, healthcare, personnel training, culture, tourism, and sports. The ministers emphasised the key role of the mechanism of the Intergovernmental Russian-Namibian Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation in promoting bilateral business cooperation and stated the importance of continuing the joint work to improve its contractual and legal framework.
Their candid and trust-based exchange of views on current global and African issues was focused on the reform of the UN Security Council, anti-terrorism, and the resolution of regional crises and conflicts, including in southern and central Africa. They also underscored the proximity of Russia and Namibia’s approaches to the Middle East settlement process. The parties agreed to step up coordination at the UN and other multilateral venues.
There was a focus on the tasks involved in vigorously promoting Russian-African multi-level cooperation in the context of efforts to implement the decisions approved following the second Russia-Africa Summit held in St Petersburg in July 2023.
