On October 5, the Government of Myanmar, the leaders of a number of ethnic formations and national rebel groups signed a national ceasefire agreement in the capital of Naypyitaw. The document may be joined by other participants of the Government-initiated peaceful process and lays the foundations for an inclusive political dialogue on ways for harmonising ethnic relations.

Russia welcomes the signing of this agreement and considers it to be an important step towards settling Myanmar’s domestic conflicts, which lasted for several decades.

We hope that its entry in force will facilitate national reconciliation and the political and socio-economic development of Myanmar, with which the Russian Federation is linked by traditionally friendly relations.
