RUSSIAN MFA INFORMATION AND PRESS DEPARTMENT COMMENT WITH REGARD TO A QUESTION FROM INTERFAX NEWS AGENCY CONCERNING RESUMPTION OF THE WORK IN LITHUANIA OF CHECHEN SEPARATIST WEB SITE KAVKAZ-CENTER
Unofficial translation from Russian
Question: How does the MFA of Russia regard the resumption of the work of the Chechen separatists' Internet site Kavkaz-Center in Lithuania?
Comment: According to media reports, activities by the web site Kavkaz-Center were resumed Wednesday, August 6, on the Lithuanian provider firm Elneta's server with direct support by Seimas (Parliament) member Petras Grazulis. On Thursday the Lithuanian State Security Department circulated a statement negatively assessing the efforts by the authors of this site and its administrators from the viewpoint of the observance of the legislation of Lithuania.
In June of the current year this site had been closed for a second time by Lithuanian competent authorities because the information placed on it had been assessed by experts as involving the propaganda of terrorism and the fomenting of national strife.
The Russian side has always given this site such qualification. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia hopes for the consistency of the Lithuanian authorities in the fight against various manifestations of support for international terrorism.
