Following the events on January 5-6, the situation in the country is gradually improving. Economic activities in the republic are returning to normal. Passenger train services have been restored in full, and additional trains were rolled out to serve the most popular destinations. The operation of some of the national payment systems has stabilised. It has been announced that state support will be provided for small and medium-sized businesses that suffered from looting. Public transport has resumed operation in the Mangystau Region as well as at Aktau International Airport. 

Government buildings in Almaty have been cleared from extremists. Many terrorists have been eliminated or arrested; their identities are being established. Law enforcement has taken control of the city’s airport although it is still closed for civil aviation.

There have been no threats to Russian foreign missions or Russian citizens in the respective consular districts. The situation around our diplomatic and consular missions remains calm. According to the latest reports, there were no Russian nationals among the victims.

The emergency centre of the Russian Embassy in Nur-Sultan is processing applications from Russian nationals who are unable to leave the Republic of Kazakhstan; their lists and places of residence are being specified in order to resolve the issue of their return to their homeland.

Between 5 to 6 pm local time on January 9, Russian Defence Ministry military transport aircraft will make flights from Almaty International Airport to Ivanovo and Orenburg to take Russian citizens back to their homeland.  The meeting point is at the airport terminal at 2 pm local time. The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Nur-Sultan has requested that the country’s authorities assist Russian citizens in completing passport and customs formalities before the flights.
