Briefing of the Embassy of Russia in Cambodia
On 8 August, the Embassy of Russia in Cambodia held a briefing for representatives of the state institutions, think tanks and media of the Kingdom on the topic of the foreign policy of the Russian Federation.
During the event, the guests were informed about the bilateral meeting of Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Mr Sergey Lavrov with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Mr Sok Chenda Sophea that took place on the sidelines of the ASEAN-related Foreign Ministers Meetings in Vientiane on 25 July 2024.
The briefing reviewed the fruitful results of our country's participation in the Russia-ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference, the East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the ASEAN Regional Forum in Laos on 26-27 July 2024. It was emphasized that Russia is committed to supporting ASEAN centrality, founded on equality, mutual benefit, regard to each other's interests. The attention was drawn to attempts of external forces, acting in neocolonialist spirit, to instill bloc mindset in the Asia Pacific, introduce NATO infrastructure and create dividing lines in the region.
The Press Attaché and Deputy Military Attaché to the Embassy noted the terrorist nature of the Kiev regime, which continues shelling of civilians in Russia’s border regions, civilian and energy infrastructure facilities, including the nuclear one. They highlighted risks of escalation of the crisis due to the supply of Western weapons to Ukraine, as well as cases of persecution of dissent and the Orthodox Church in the former Soviet republic.
The Cambodian guests were elucidated on Russia’s principled approaches to the developments in the Middle East. The Second International Buddhist Forum themed "Traditional Buddhism and Modern Challenges" hosted in Ulan Ude in August was announced at the briefing.
