Press release on consultations between deputy foreign ministers of Russia and Japan
On February 12, Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov held consultations with his Japanese counterpart Shinsuke Sugiyama.
The meeting focused on ways of advancing Russian-Japanese cooperation with a view toward deepening political dialogue, expanding trade and economic ties, developing contacts in practical areas and promoting cultural exchanges.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of comprehensive work to prepare for Russian President Vladimir Putin's official visit to Japan, as well as a regular session of the Russian-Japanese Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Issues in Moscow and talks between the countries' foreign ministers.
The deputy prime ministers exchanged their opinions on a number of pressing international problems, including the situation in the Middle East and North Africa.
The sides agreed to hold the next round of bilateral consultations in Tokyo. The exact date will be coordinated through diplomatic channels.
