PRESS RELEASE
On March 10-11 Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Igor Ivanov held telephone conversations with the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of France, Germany, China, Mexico, Chile and Pakistan.
The main theme of discussion was the situation around Iraq and the prospects for a UN Security Council vote on the Anglo-American draft resolution on Iraq.
Ivanov reaffirmed the conviction of Russia that UNSCR 1441 and other Council decisions have not exhausted themselves and should remain the basis of UN work on Iraq, underscoring the importance of concerted efforts by all members of the UN Security Council for achieving a peaceful settlement of the Iraq crisis.
Some bilateral questions of mutual interest were also discussed.
