Comment by the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry regarding the Swiss Government’s decision to introduce additional measures in line with the anti-Russian sanctions over Ukraine
Having discussed the situation in Ukraine at its meeting on 27 August 2014, the Federal Council (Government) of Switzerland approved further measures in line with the anti-Russian sanctions imposed by the European Union. Now these measures, in addition to trade in military and dual-use items, cover the supplies of oil- and gas- processing equipment, cooperation with Crimea and Sevastopol, and financial services. The Council also expanded the list of Russian citizens and organisations that are not allowed to open bank accounts in Switzerland. Some days ago, the Swiss side cancelled the visit to Russia by Head of the Federal Department (Minister) of Economic Affairs, Education and Research of Switzerland Johann Schneider-Ammann, scheduled for October 2014.
We regard these decisions taken by Bern as groundless and demonstrating that the Swiss side, to the detriment of its own interests, continues to follow the unfriendly steps by the United States and the European Union towards Russia.
