Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov Holds Talks with Acting Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Institutional Reform Steven Vanackere

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov on May 4 held talks with Acting Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Institutional Reform Steven Vanackere, who is in Moscow on a working visit.
During the conversation, held in a frank and constructive atmosphere, both sides emphasized their satisfaction with the present state of development of Russian-Belgian relations.
Lavrov and Vanackere discussed a number of international issues, including Russia's relations with the European Union in light of the upcoming Belgian EU Presidency in the second half of 2010. Particular attention in this context was given to the Russia-EU modernization partnership, and to the prospects for the introduction of a visa-free regime. The Ministers jointly reviewed the current state of European architecture, the situation in the Russia-NATO Council, and the Corfu Process within the OSCE. The situation in Afghanistan, Iraq and around Iran, as well as in the Balkans was also touched upon. Mutual readiness to continue an open dialogue on all topical themes of international politics was reaffirmed.
The Ministers of Foreign Affairs signed the Fifth Russian-Belgian Joint Program of Action for 2010-2011 substantially updating and concretizing the main thrust areas for bilateral cooperation.
