Press release on First Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Titov’s political consultations with Austrian Secretary-General for Foreign Affairs Michael Linhart
On December 15, Russian First Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Titov held consultations with Austrian Secretary-General for Foreign Affairs Michael Linhart.
The diplomats took stock of the entire range of bilateral ties, especially in light of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s upcoming talks with his Austrian counterpart, Sebastian Kurz, during the latter’s planned visit to Moscow, scheduled for January 2017. Both officials praised the constructive character of Russian-Austrian relations and sustainable dynamics of high-level contacts in various areas. Also discussed were major events on the cultural-humanitarian agenda, including the Russia-Austria Year of Tourism exchange to be launched in 2017.
The sides examined a wide range of international issues, among them efforts against international terrorism, the settlement in Syria, and developments in the Middle East. Other topics included the situation in Ukraine, the role of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in promoting the peace process there, and cooperation of Russia and Austria within the OSCE framework, given Austria’s OSCE Chairmanship in 2017.
