Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks during a meeting with Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, Yerevan, November 11, 2019
Thank you very much, Mr Prime Minister.
President of Russia Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev send greetings to you, and praise their regular contact with you. You met with Vladimir Putin four times this year, and as many times with Dmitry Medvedev.
You mentioned changes occurring in your country. But we can see that changes are not affecting the continuity in our relations and we are continuously building up allied, strategic partnership in all areas.
We have very close contacts between our economic departments. A meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation in Yerevan is being prepared and planned for the first half of next year. Yerevan will also host the Russian-Armenian interregional forum.
As you noted, there are intensive contacts between our government ministries and agencies. Literally, over the past month and a half, Russian Minister of Defence Sergey Shoigu, Deputy Healthcare Minister Tatyana Semyonova, Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin have visited here. So there is very close contact on all tracks – parliamentary, executive, and civil society.
We are happy that mutual trade is growing steadily. Russia is Armenia’s leading partner and top investor in the Armenian economy. Cooperation in the EAEU, CSTO, and CIS is certainly a priority. We congratulate Armenia on its very productive presidency of the EAEU – you have listed the results achieved.
In a couple of weeks, another important event will be held in Bishkek, the CSTO summit, where we will also advance our cooperation in military political, security and allied cooperation.
I am very grateful for the warm welcome and hospitality in the Armenian capital and for the opportunity to meet with you.
