I have met with President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. During our meeting, we discussed issues related to the implementation of agreements that were reached in September 2014 in Astrakhan, where, on the sidelines of the Caspian Summit, the presidents (of our countries) had a very substantive conversation.

The arrangements reached by the heads of state are being implemented. We took note that the Intergovernmental Commission has been successfully promoting economic cooperation. It met in November 2014, paving the way for a number of concrete agreements to enhance trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian cooperation. Turkmenistan's President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has made a special emphasis on his commitment to further strengthening of cultural ties. Russia highly appreciates the efforts by Turkmenistan's leadership to promote the Russian language, and ensure that it is being taught in kindergartens, middle schools and universities.

We have also discussed foreign policy issues with a special emphasis on Central Asia, developments in and around Afghanistan, and in general our cooperation within the UN and other international bodies. We also stressed the importance of the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Second World War. We hope that this matter will benefit from special attention in our bilateral relations, as well as within the UN, the OSCE and other organisations. Turkmenistan has confirmed its commitment to ensuring that this event is celebrated in accordance with its true meaning.

These are the main arrangements that were reached during this meeting. I believe this visit has been a great success. We appreciate the attention by the President of Turkmenistan to our delegation. We will now continue talks on foreign policy cooperation with Turkmenistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Rashid Meredov.
