Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks at a meeting with Minister for the Office of the State Counsellor of Myanmar Kyaw Tint Swe, Moscow, June 10, 2019
I hope your participation in the St Petersburg International Economic Forum was a success. I recall with pleasure the period of our joint work at the UN, where you spent a little more time than me.
We highly value our bilateral relations. The Republic of the Union of Myanmar is our long-standing partner in the Asia-Pacific Region.
Last year we celebrated the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and Myanmar. This was a landmark in the development of our cooperation. I hope that at the current meeting we will manage to map out ways of advancing our bilateral relations based on the statements made by President of Russia Vladimir Putin and State Counsellor of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi in Beijing in April.
