Press release on the CIS Foreign Ministers Council meeting
On October 10, a regular meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States took place in Ashgabat.
The participants in the meeting had a detailed discussion of current international matters as well as a wide range of cooperation issues within the Commonwealth. They reviewed documents aimed at strengthening cooperation in the law enforcement, military and cultural areas.
In order to promote the member countries’ positions on the global stage, the Action Programme to step up the partnership between foreign ministries was adopted, which envisions further coordinated interaction in key international organisations and the promotion of cooperative approaches to major global and regional challenges.
The ministers coordinated the draft Appeal by the Heads of CIS Member States to the People of the CIS and the world community on the upcoming 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 to be celebrated next year.
The foreign ministers adopted a statement, On Support for Practical Steps to Prevent an Arms Race in Space.
Several documents approved at the meeting will be submitted to the addenda of the Council of the CIS Heads of State to convene in Ashgabat on October 11 and the Council of the CIS Heads of Government to convene in Moscow on October 25.
It was agreed to hold the next regular meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers in Kazakhstan on April 3, 2020.
