As is known, Soviet Russia was the first country to recognise Saudi Arabia in 1926. The first Soviet envoy to hand the credentials to the founding king of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Abdulaziz ibn Saud, was outstanding diplomat and statesman Karim Khakimov.
Opening the videoconference, Deputy Chairman of the Group of Strategic Vision “Russia – Islamic World” Farit Mukhametshin talked about the June 2 release of the book “Karim Khakimov: Chronicles” by Ambassador-at-Large Oleg Ozerov, who had previously headed the Russian embassy in Saudi Arabia for seven years and served as part-time permanent representative of Russia to the OIC for six years. According to Mr Mukhametshin, this multifaceted book combines the results of scientific research, literature, and journalism. A presentation of the book is planned, as well as an online conference with the participation of young diplomats from the CIS countries.
During the videoconference, the participants discussed a number of other topics concerning the history of the progressive development of Russia’s ties with the Islamic world.
