Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s meeting with the delegation of the Gulf Cooperation Council Troika
On September 24, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with the delegation of the Troika of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (Gulf Cooperation Council) led by Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrein Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani on the sidelines of the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The officials considered a wide range of topics related to the further progressive development of relations between the Russian Federation and the Gulf Cooperation Council states, including the convocation of the next foreign ministerial meeting of the Russia-GCC strategic dialogue. Sergey Lavrov expressed the conviction that the Russian Federation’s multi-vector ties with members of this regional organisation would continue to develop successfully for the benefit of the peoples of our countries.
The officials held an in-depth exchange of views on the current Middle East agenda as well as on the upgraded Russian Collective Security Concept for the Persian Gulf Region. They pointed out the importance of better coordination between Russia and the GCC states in the interests of stabilising the situation and avoiding an escalation of tension in that strategically crucial region of the world.
