Press release on the 2018 SPIEF Russia-Africa Panel Session
On May 25, the Russia-Africa Panel Session was held in St Petersburg as part of the 22nd St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). The session was attended by President of the Central African Republic Faustin-Archange Touadera, ministers and heads of parliaments from a number of African countries, accredited ambassadors to Russia and members of African and African Union delegations participating in the SPIEF. Russia was represented by officials from various ministries and agencies as well as representatives of academia, business and society.
The Foreign Ministry was represented by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov.
The session featured an in-depth discussion of the current state and prospects of trade, economic and investment cooperation between Russia and African counties. It was noted that the interest of Russian and African businesses in establishing mutually beneficial ties and implementing joint projects both in Russia and Africa has grown significantly. As such, the need to improve mutual awareness of trade and investment potential and business specifics, including current legislation, was underscored
