Participation of the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, in the OSCE’s informal ministerial meeting
On the 26 September, the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, participated in the OSCE's informal ministerial meeting organised by the Swiss presidency of this Organisation on the side-lines of the 69th meeting of the UN General Assembly in New York. The ministers discussed the situation in Ukraine and the ways out of the European security crisis and the OSCE's role in this.
Sergey Lavrov paid attention to the sources and the origins of the internal Ukrainian crisis, which has become the consequence of the general crisis of European security and policy of Western countries imposing their own model of the world order to the detriment of the historically established economic, humanitarian and cultural ties of other states. He urged them to contribute to the peace process in Ukraine, the resolution of acute humanitarian problems in the South-East of the country and the launch of an inclusive internal Ukrainian dialogue with participation of all the regions and political forces on the future constitutional order.
The minister confirmed Russia's readiness to target its work to the restoration of trust in Europe and the formation of a truly indivisible security and equal cooperation system based on mutual respect for each other's interests. The Helsinki Plus 40 process launched by the OSCE can become a good platform for that.
The discussion of these issues will continue at the official session of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Basel on the 4-5 December.
