Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s telephone conversation with Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif
On November 24, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke by telephone with Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif.
The discussion focused on the current situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, taking into account the efforts made by the Russian side to achieve a complete ceasefire in the conflict zone, as well as the need for humanitarian assistance to the civilian population affected by the fighting. A thorough exchange of views was held on other key issues, including the situation in Syria, the Persian Gulf, Yemen and Afghanistan.
The ministers paid special attention to cooperation between Russia and Iran on international platforms in other areas of concern, including the issues of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear programme. They stressed the commitment of Moscow and Tehran to the prompt return of all JCPOA participants to full implementation of all their obligations under this agreement, approved by UN Security Council Resolution 2231.
The ministers compared notes on the current projects of the Russian-Iranian multi-faceted partnership, with a focus on trade, economic and humanitarian areas.
They agreed to continue the dialogue on the entire range of issues of mutual interest.
